Can you Design Belonging?

❓ Can you design belonging?
It’s a question we’ve been thinking about a lot.

💫 We may not be able to design how another person feels. But we can shape the conditions that influence that feeling—the spaces people enter, the invitations they receive, the roles they are trusted to take on, the rituals that connect them, and the systems they have to navigate.

These choices affect more than belonging. They shape how people participate, how teams collaborate, how leadership is practiced, and whether new ideas have room to emerge.

👏 That’s why Koné Consulting and Mike Beebe, CTF are bringing Dr. Susie Wise to Seattle for a full-day, in-person Design for Belonging workshop on Tuesday, October 6.

🛠️ This will be a hands-on session—not simply a conversation you listen to and leave behind. Participants will work with practical Design for Belonging frameworks and leave with tools they can use to notice, understand, and intentionally shape belonging in their own workplaces, organizations, schools, and communities.

👩‍🏫 And Susie is an extraordinary person to learn from.
She is the author of Design for Belonging, a co-creator of Liberatory Design, the founder of the K12 Lab at Stanford’s d.school, and a longtime Stanford educator. Her work offers a thoughtful and practical way to understand how belonging is connected to inclusion, leadership, collaboration, and innovation.

💞 At Koné Consulting, our mission is to address inequities in income and opportunity. That work continually reminds us that access is not only about whether a resource exists. It is also about whether people feel welcomed, respected, trusted, and able to participate fully.

Belonging is not separate from the work.
It shapes what becomes possible within it.

💌 If this question matters to your work, we hope you’ll join us.
