Final countdown to file for Economic Impact Payments (stimulus checks)

Will you join us in getting the word out?

We’ve been hard at work with the folks at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP), a non-partisan research and policy institute, and GMMB, an international communications firm, to ensure state and county eligibility agencies have what they need to conduct stimulus check outreach with their clients. Here is a link to our resources we helped to create.

With less than 30 days before the October 15th application deadline, many Americans are at risk of missing out on much needed stimulus checks as a result of the recent CARES Act, particularly very low-income families with children, people who have been disconnected from work opportunities, low-income adults not raising children in their home, and those experiencing homelessness.

Unlike millions of people who file taxes, thus are receiving the payments automatically, these “non-filers” must file a form by October 15th to receive their stimulus checks this year or file a 2020 tax return next year to receive the check in 2021.

Our own Christina Watson created most of the training materials – text, email and phone scripts, informational PowerPoints, and FAQs – designed to assist eligibility workers when contacting and guiding clients.

Please help get the word out by sharing these resources to your clients and social media channels:

» Check payment status or complete form here and share this link with others:

» United Way’s 211 Economic Impact Payment (EIP) Helpline (1-844-322-3639) provides over-the-phone assistance. Specialized agents help callers confirm their eligibility, learn how to claim their EIP, fill out the IRS Non-Filer form, and answer specific EIP questions. Callers are also screened for tax credit eligibility and referred to free tax services as needed.

» Code for America’s Get Your Refund Service is a free, mobile-friendly platform that uses Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) volunteers to help people get their stimulus check and file a tax return if needed.

Additional filing resources may be found here.

We are proud of our part in this rewarding partnership and ask your assistance in helping with the final to push to reach those who still need to sign up to receive their stimulus checks.

 The countdown is on.
