Koné Consulting Partnering to Get Word Out on Stimulus Checks

About 12 million Americans risk missing out on the stimulus payments provided through the recent CARES Act because they, unlike millions of people who are receiving the payments automatically from the IRS, must file a form by October 15th to receive it this year, or file a 2020 tax return next year to receive it in 2021.

Because nearly 9 million non-filers receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or Medicaid benefits, states and state agencies have their information on file, making outreach and subsequent stimulus check enrollment possible.

Koné Consulting is engaged helping get the word out. “I’ve worked in in anti-hunger/anti-poverty programs in the U.S. for over 25 years, and was a former SNAP client myself, which is why I am committed to improving the lives of underserved populations,” shared Alicia Koné, president and owner of Koné Consulting.

According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP), “Twenty-seven percent of the 9 million people are Black — higher than their share of the U.S. population (12 percent) — while another 19 percent are Latino. Ensuring that low-income people of color receive the payments for which they qualify is especially important given emerging evidence that they are being hit hardest by both the economic and health effects of the pandemic.”

“Acting as a liaison and providing project management for CBPP and [communications firm] GMMB, we aim to help ensure states, counties and state agencies have public awareness campaign materials and tools necessary to spread the word,” Koné explained.

One way the partnership is spreading the word is by engaging state leaders through national partners such as the American Public Human Services Association (APHSA), the National Association of State TANF Administrators (NASTA) and the American Association of SNAP Directors (AASD). Leaders are being provided a marketing campaign materials, electronic fliers, and webinar support.

Please join in helping get the word out by visiting CBPP’s Stimulus Payment toolbox and posting to your professional and personal social media channels.
