Client spotlight: City of Roseville, a community of kindness
This week we are putting the finishing touches on the City of Roseville’s Community Needs Assessment, on which we’ve been collaborating for about six months. The city is ahead of the curve when it comes to recognizing the powerful role a city can play in in supporting health and human services.
About 20-minutes northeast of Sacramento, Roseville has the distinction of operating a significant grants program, the Citizen’s Benefit Fund, to support local non-profits and their efforts to enhance the lives of its citizens. Our work will ultimately help inform city council on setting grant funding priorities – thanks to input from community members and stakeholders and best practices research.
Roseville’s Citizens Benefit Fund was created with proceeds from a city-owned hospital in 1993 and in the last funding cycle provided $360,000 in grants for the year.
While this in itself is unique and noteworthy, what we’d like to celebrate is the City of Roseville’s ability to quickly respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, setting up a Small Business Stabilization Program utilizing grant resources – in the form of $1 million in zero-interest loans to 111 local small businesses, saving over 1,000 jobs. In ADDITION to continuing to support non-profits through their annual grants. The city also has the Roseville Advantage Financing Program, which has invested $10 million in small-business development.
Our hats are off to our friends in Roseville, for their foresight, financial stewardship, and especially, leading with kindness and heart.
